Should you trust AI with your blog or store content? A strategic comparison

Are you on the fence over AI vs human writers for website content? Read on to make a smarter decision!

Should you trust AI with your blog or store content? A strategic comparison

As an e-commerce business or brand owner, you’d probably resonate with this dilemma. As you walk past your marketing team’s den, you only see the team’s wordsmith, most prized writer, looking wistfully out of the window.

The blinds are half drawn, and the sun looks ready to call it a day with its golden, orangish rays simmering on the desk of the once super busy writer.

You wonder what’s going on in that creative resource’s head as they draw imaginary doodles with their index fingers on their laptop’s scroll pad.

And suddenly your thoughts draw closer home as you wonder about that all-pervading concern of recent times ~ “Will AI-generated articles bring in the moolah for my brand? Should I ask my human writers to hang up their boots and find other avenues for their skills?”

As the debate on AI vs. human content gains momentum and people and bots prepare to take sides, we at Mavlers bring you Nitin Mishra (our in-house, results-oriented Project Manager), spilling the beans on what the ground-level reality looks like for each side.

Decoding the appeal of AI-generated content

While it is true that AI writing tools powered by models like ChatGPT, Jasper, and others have undeniably altered the content landscape, for businesses and creators, the allure is quite obvious.

~ Speed: What takes a human 3 hours to research, curate, and execute, AI can produce in less than 3 minutes.

~ Scalability: If you need 100 product descriptions overnight, that too can be achieved super efficiently.

~ Cost-effectiveness: No hourly rates or missed deadlines, just plain and simple prompts and output.

~ Consistency: Your brand’s tone and structure can be standardized across thousands of pieces.

So, in theory, for e-commerce store owners, this means endless product listings written in a uniform voice and posting blogs without any signs of creative fatigue.

While it does seem that AI has the potential to eliminate the need for human writers completely, but the question here that must be answered is; does efficiency always equal authenticity?!

Gentle readers, we are all aware that it is not always the case!

The inimitable human touch ~ What AI still can’t touch with a bargepole!

Despite its capabilities, AI lacks the one fundamental thing that has shaped storytelling for centuries, a trait that non-sentient beings are yet to exhibit. Yes, we are indeed referring to empathy!

When human writers, authors, put pen to paper, or craft words and sentences by moving a cursor, they don’t just come up with grammatically correct, soulless, drab blocks of text.

Instead, they breathe life into the art of weaving the written word, imbuing it with emotion, intent, and cultural nuance.

When they write a blog or a product story, they are not just writing about an item; they are imagining and describing how it fits into someone’s life.

For instance, if you sell stationery products and ask an AI chatbot to come up with a suitable product description for a leather journal, it might offer something like this: “This leather journal is perfect for daily note-taking. Made from premium materials for durability.”

On the contrary, that human writer, whose skills you might have begun to consider obsolete, might come up with something a lot more soulful and engaging, such as “Your ideas deserve more than a digital draft. This handcrafted leather journal feels like the beginning of something timeless, with every page inviting you to think, doodle, and dream. It can be the perfect gift for the writer within you waiting to be explored or for someone who loves to put to paper and collect ticket stubs on every trip abroad!

While both are accurate, only one connects with the browser, and that’s the difference between copy and communication.

You choose!

Balancing the double-edged sword of SEO and authenticity

Search engines are undoubtedly becoming smarter.  Google’s Helpful Content Updates emphasize originality, expertise, and genuine value, the very traits AI-generated text often struggles to sustain.

AI can surely optimize your content for keywords, but not always for context, which is something the experienced human eye always looks for when penning a piece of content or copy.

A seasoned writer reads between the analytics, understanding why people search, not just what they search for.

And they create content that caters to that intent.

When humans write your blog or store content:

~ It carries E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trustworthiness).

~It builds brand voice over time.

~It forms relationships, not just ranks.

In contrast, AI basically replicates trends and often echoes what is already available online (yes, AI slop is the word for that!). That loop of unimaginative sameness will ultimately dull your brand identity if there is no human on the other end reviewing what goes online.

Getting the best of both worlds by collaborating instead of replacing!

Well, if you are considering marrying the productivity and efficiency of AI with the creativity and authenticity of human writers, you are probably on the right track!

You can ask your writers to outsource the spade work to AI, such as;

~ Generating outlines

~ Suggesting topic ideas

~ Summarizing research

~ Automating repetitive SEO tasks

This frees up considerable time and creative bandwidth for human writers to do what they do best; storytelling, strategy, emotional resonance, and brand differentiation.

Using AI as an apprentice helps brands and writers deliver their best work, in tune with the brand tone and voice.

Unveiling the future ~ Understanding what brands and readers will choose

As generic, machine-generated content continues to flood the internet, readers will ultimately crave real connection and pause for something that speaks with intent and emotion.

That being said, the future will belong to the brands that blend AI efficiency with human creativity, not because they chose sides, but because they chose balance.
